Timor Leste’s Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao dedicated a two-hour visit to CAMP CHALLENGE Sembawang as part of his itinerary on a visit to Singapore on 13th July 2009.

The 3-hectares site nestled in Sembawang is dedicated specifically to adventure-based learning, for both corporate teambuilding and youth development programmes.The venue which used to be a Prison Staff Training School, retains a quaint and mostly untouched old world charm.


As part of his tour of CAMP CHALLENGE’s Sembawang site, PM Gusmao witnessed an actual corporate teambuilding programme in action. Participants from A*Star Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology were pleasantly surprised by PM Gusmao’s unannounced visit.

Besides exploring the facilities and viewing professionally facilitated activities at the adventure site, PM Gusmao also had a first-hand experience at Laser Combat, where state-of-the-art equipments such as infrared emitting guns with sensor detection fields are utilized as part of a teambuilding programme to drive key themes such as leadership development, cooperation and team strategy.

This visit to CAMP CHALLENGE’s site is part of an ongoing collaborative development between CAMP CHALLENGE, Singapore and the Government of Timor Leste, to embark on a USD 2.1million integrated adventure learning site in the capital of Timor Leste, Dili, with the purpose of facilitating Timor Leste’s Nation Building process and Youth Leadership Development.
