Paintball is a combat sport that is fascinating in terms of educational as well as recreational value. It combines, in a unique way, strategy, cooperation and team work.
Parents like their kids to play paintball because it is a safe way for them to interact with other kids, allows them to be active in a social setting, gives them outdoor exercise and teaches them social skills. It also builds communication skills, teamwork and leadership. It is also a great stress reliever and allows adults and children to harmlessly get any excess aggression out of their system. Based on injury statistics, paintball is actually safer than most sports. In some countries, paintball is being used by law enforcement agencies and military units to train new recruits since it is a cost effective way to teach combat situations.
Although being considered as a new sport, paintball is growing so popular in many countries all over the world that many national and international tournaments are organized, for example the “Paintball World Cup Series Asia 2008 (from November 6 to 9/2008 ) in Malaysia.
In Singapore, our first official paintball tournament, the Singapore Paintball Novice Series (SPNS) 2008 was held in March and June 2008 by Paintball Association. Together with Singapore Paintball association effort of promoting paintball to Singaporeans, we find it important to introduce and provide proper education and the safety guidelines about this sport to children and students at their early ages. These are the objectives of the program.
