LEADERSHIP excellence is about how leaders mobilize others to get extraordinary things done and turn CHALLENGE-ing opportunities into remarkable successes.
Harnessing the power of outdoor adventure sports, this programme is targeted at youths aged 13 – 21, and makes use of fun and CHALLENGE-ing to promote personal and interpersonal growth, as well as unleash and inculcate leadership qualities in youths.
The programme introduces the 5 practices and 10 commitments of exemplary leadership by James M Kouzes & Barry Posner (www.leadershipchallenge.com). To maximise the experience, the following key learning points are integrated into the programme, and provide a good foundation for cultivating leadership in youths:
- Model the Way
- Find your voice by clarifying your personal values
- Set the example by aligning actions with shared values
- Inspire a Shared Vision
- Envision the future by imagining exciting & ennobling possibilities
- Enlisting others in a common vision by appealing to shared aspirations
- CHALLENGE the Process
- Search for opportunities by seeking innovative ways to change, grow & improve
- Experiment & take risks by constantly generating small wins & learning from mistakes
- Enable Others to Act
- Foster collaboration by promoting cooperative goals & building trust
- Strengthen others by sharing power & discretion
- Encourage the Heart
- Recognize contributions by showing appreciation for individuals
- Celebrate the values & victories by creating a spirit of community
The activities are problem-centered and action-oriented, designed to simulate the CHALLENGES faced through the journey in life and towards achieving goals. This effectively prepares youths for leadership roles that they might face in school, co-curricular activities, and even work settings in the near future. In particular, participants would be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to facilitate similar adventure sports-learning programmes, thus enabling them to mentor and inspire other youths in time to come. |
