John’s roots in the outdoor education industry could be traced back to his secondary schooldays, being a highly active individual In various co-curricular activities such as in Sports & Games (Basketball), Uniformed Groups (Venture Scouts), a member of the Peer Leaders that conducts activities (e.g. Adventure Level Camps) out of school boundaries and representative of them to the highest leadership in school, the student council as a student counselor.
Having 2 years and counting of experience within this outdoor industry at CAMP CHALLENGE, John has also been an instructor with various organizations, allowing him to acquire relevant skills to be competent in Ropes Courses, Facilitation of Low Elements & Mobile Adventure Activities, Personal Star 2 Level Proficiency in Kayaking and Basic First Aid certified by the Singapore First Aid Training Centre. John is also a National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Bronze recipient. Apart from being involved as an instructor, John has participated in adventure races, expedition to Mount Kinabalu in Sabah and Sports Education exchange programs to Brunei Sports School.
Being a member of CAMP CHALLENGE’s group of International Instructors, John attended Primary, Secondary and tertiary education in Singapore, currently a specialist diploma holder in Sports & Exercise Science from Republic Polytechnic. John is proficient in speaking English and Chinese Mother Tongue.
John believes in learning without boundaries, which means every activity in the outdoors has a learning value to it. Learning through the outdoors is like attending lessons in a “School of Hard Knocks” with Mother Nature as the greatest teacher, friends as our greatest motivator and we as the greatest obstacle.
